Pipe pigging involves the use of a flexible cleaning plug, known as a 'pig', which is propelled through the pipeline by means of a specific medium. The diameter of the pig is slightly larger than the internal diameter of the pipeline.
There are several reasons to apply the pigging method:
Cleaning a pipeline
Emptying / drying a pipeline
Inspecting the pipelines
Benefits of pipe pigging
1
Less chemical waste compared to chemical cleaning (over 90%)
2
Faster and more effective filling of pipelines without air bubbles
3
Faster and more effective pressure testing of the pipeline
4
Faster and more effective gas and pipeline wall inerting (making explosion-free)
